Kalkan Area Guide
Kalkan is the Antalya regions western most seaside holiday resort and the most exclusive in the province, a town full of charm and beauty that has always managed to avoid mass tourism perhaps as the airport transfer times area rather long compared to other Antalya resorts and that huge developments are prohibited due to much of the land in the area being protected green belt with very strict building regulations.
The town is built around two stunning bays, Kalamar and Kalkan, with homes that seem to cascade down towards the azure of the Mediterranean Sea much like seats in an ancient amphitheatre with the hillsides full of luxury Kalkan villas and boutique apartment complexes that offer breathtaking panoramic sea views.
The old town centre of Kalkan is where it is all at when you buy property in Kalkan, narrow cobbled streets take you back in time, lined with old Greek stone houses with colourful window shutters and displays of colourful Bougainvillaea and wisteria cascading down from overhanging balconies, winding down to the picturesque harbour with both the town centre and the harbour areas being ideal places for dining where restaurants often provide roof terrace tables to make the most of the views, especially early evening as the sunsets over the town.
Whilst there are some public beaches in Kalkan, most visitors tend to head for one of several private beach clubs that offer beach bars and restaurants, water sports and private beach platforms with sea access and small ferry boats to the harbour for easy town access, or you can take a drive to nearby Kaputas beach which sits between Kalkan and Kas though be aware that there is a rather long and steep series of steps to get down to the beach, easy enough till you need to ascend back up though a little further you can discover the delights of stunning Patara Beach.
When looking at Kalkan real estate, there are several areas to consider, the most central to the towns amenities being Ortaalan, Kiziltas which sits above the main road into Kalkan, the sought after area of Kisla to the left of the bay looking out from the harbour, Komurkuk which is found between the town centre and Kisla or the twinned bay of Kalamar, however you may also find Kalkan property for sale in nearby surrounding hillside villages.
